Steamboat Springs School District Names Darcy N. Walters as Assistant Principal of Soda Creek Elementary

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — The Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD) announces the appointment of Darcy N. Walters as the new Assistant Principal of Soda Creek Elementary School (SCE).

Walters brings nearly two decades of administrative, instructional, and special education experience to the leadership team at Soda Creek Elementary. 

"We are thrilled to welcome Darcy into this leadership position at Soda Creek Elementary," said Amy Bohmer, principal of SCE. "Her deep background in literacy, special education, and instructional coaching, combined with her commitment to the Steamboat Springs community, makes her a tremendous asset to our district’s students, staff, and families."

Walters is a familiar face within the district, having most recently served as an Early Literacy Coach and Building Leadership Team member at Sleeping Giant School, as well as Interim Assistant Principal at Strawberry Park Elementary. Her background in local education also includes serving as Director of Teaching and Learning, Director of Special Education, and Lower Elementary Lead Teacher at Steamboat Montessori, alongside work as Special Education Coordinator for Northwest BOCES. Before her work in Steamboat Springs, she taught special education across several Denver Public Schools and spent time teaching internationally at the Bilkent Laboratory & International School in Ankara, Turkey. 

Walters earned her State of Colorado Principal License through the Ritchie Executive Leadership Program at the University of Denver and holds a master's degree in Sociocultural, Multicultural, and Bilingual Education from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Beyond the classroom, she is an active community member, currently serving on the Board of Directors for The Next Page Learning Center.
